The Inspiration Behind The Fourth and Beyond

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders affect 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 dads/partners. I am 1 in 5. The transition into motherhood was no walk in the park. It was the most humbling experience of my life. We spend so much time as a new parent preparing for the pregnancy, the delivery, and what the baby needs. We are never taught to prepare for the aftermath. The toughest trimester, the 4th trimester. No one prepared me for the war I would face within myself as a new parent. It felt like I was thrown out into open waters with no floatation device. I remember being 2 weeks postpartum with my first son, I was sitting in a corner with tears running down my face. I was up for 24 hours, had cracked nipples and I could not put down my screaming newborn. I was overstimulated and just could not understand what was going on. I didn't even know how to get the help that I needed. After pushing through and surviving the first 10 weeks, I made a vow to always assess, advocate, educate, and support mothers/families in their 4th trimester. The sad truth, once mother's have their babies, they are almost forgotten. While this is a season of sacrifice, it does not mean sacrifice the mother. I hope that I can help you discover how amazing you are and help you navigate your journey into motherhood and postpartum. The journey is so different for every mom. Some moms are fortunate and never experience being 1 in 5. To the moms that push through and suffer in silence, I SEE YOU, I AM YOU, I AM HERE TO SUPPORT YOU. The 4th trimester includes anyone who has had a baby, is adopting, fostering , or even being a family caregiver. Let The Fourth and Beyond be apart of your village. You don't have to be alone.
